My current Yoga practice and teachings…
Yoga Teacher with studies on Ashtanga Yoga (KPJAYI Authorized Level 2), Vinyasa Krama Yoga, Rocket Yoga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Holistic Yoga & Yoga as Therapy; and a humble student of Advaita Vedanta and the wisdom & healing of Sacred Plants. Since late 2010, the main focus of my yoga practice and teachings have been from the Ashtanga Yoga Method.
I currently practice and study Ashtanga Yoga at Shri, K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India (the home of the Ashtanga Yoga lineage) with Guru Sharath Jois, where i go for months of the year to immerse myself in the tradition; and where in early 2018 i received the blessing from Guruji to represent the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga teachers around the world (Authorization Level II). I also spend another big part of my practice & trainings under the close guidance of my dear teacher Matthew Sweeney in North India & Indonesia.
My travels around the world to study and practice Ashtanga Yoga, have taken me to incredible places like India, Indonesia, and Thailand, to practice with very insightful and inspiring teachers to whom I am deeply grateful for enlightening my path with their wisdom on Yoga as a path of Consciousness and as a Way of Life: Sharath Jois (KPJAYI India), Matthew Sweeney (The Yoga Temple), Tim Feldmann (Miami Life Center), Prem & Radja (Ashtanga Yoga Bali Research Center), David Swenson, David Keil (Yoga Anatomy), David Robson (Ashtanga Yoga Toronto), Laruga, and Faith Scimecca (Washington DC).
I am deeply grateful for all the light that all these teachers have shared with me over the years and for shaping my practice and my teachings.
I am currently based in Punta Hermosa beach in Lima, Peru, where I hold a Holistic Yoga School “Ananda Yoga Living” that offers Traditional Ashtanga Yoga (Mysore style) & Therapeutic Ashtanga Yoga (Holistic approach), as well as Vinyasa Krama Yoga (a system that complements the Ashtanga Yoga Method). I also offer group yoga classes and workshops, as well as private Yoga instruction, corporate Yoga classes, and Thai Yoga massage workshops and private sessions.
I am constantly traveling and teaching Yoga as well as offering Thai Yoga Massage around the world, and more regularly to my previous home the VA/DC area of USA.
My Yoga story…
I was first introduced to Yoga when i was 18 years old back in Peru. It was a few years later while living in Washington, DC. that i reconnected with what would be my practice and teachings for Life.
Yoga changed my life completely. I came back to it in 2010 looking for balance and inner peace and that was exactly what i found. It gave me the tools to discover who I really was and gave me the clarity and courage to stay on my path and away]ken, and in the process becoming a much happier and content human being. With yoga, I realized that my happiness was my own responsibility. So, i gradually became the artist and protagonist of my own life. I am eternally grateful for that. Quickly after i started practicing, i started to make crucial changes in the different aspects of my life that would aid to my inner peace, and soon enough i wanted to immerse myself more into this practice that had done so much for me.
It was around this time that i signed up for my first 200 hr. Holistic Yoga teacher training. And, it was during these 6 transformational months of immersing myself into this old healing tradition, and with the realization that Yoga brings love, peace, and balance to all aspects of my life, that i decided to become a teacher to be able to share this with the entire world. So, I did, and started teaching right from the start. It was probably the best decision i could have ever made for myself since I was not only able to share Yoga with all of my students, but also realized that this is what i wanted to do for the rest of my life. Along with Yoga, came Meditation, Chanting… and the approach to these practices as a philosophy of Life.
It was in the beginning of 2012 and with so much love and gratitude for my practice of Ashtanga Yoga that I decided to narrow the focus of both my practice and my teachings to this tradition and did my second Yoga Studies training. It was during this training that i committed myself to the old and traditional way Ashtanga was taught in India: Ashtanga Yoga Mysore style. I fell completely in love with Mysore. And, it was during this training that i came with another realization: Ashtanga was to be my practice for Life. My next training on 2013 was on Rocket Yoga and the 2 next ones after that in 2015, were completely focused in the Ashtanga Yoga tradition. It was also around 2014 that I got immersed in Vinyasa Krama Yoga as a complement to the Ashtanga Yoga Method. And, in 2018 I did my next Yoga studies with my Teacher Matthew Sweeney on this powerful practice and approach to Yoga.
My studies on Yoga combined with the experience of my own personal practice and years of teaching, gave me the depths to be able to become an Ashtanga Mysore style teacher.
I am very thankful for the teachers with whom i currently undergo my continuing Yoga education, for sharing their wisdom and light, and enriching my life with their teachings.
“In my classes, prepare to challenge yourself, sweat, and have fun using the body as a pathway and empowering the mind so that you can experience the same transformation qualities and light that Yoga has brought into my life”.
Namaste,
Claudia
